With summer fast approaching, we’ve scrubbed and oiled
the grill and have proudly given it a place of prominence on our back deck, ready
to fire up at a moment’s notice. My husband’s already dug out
his favorite grilling utensils and I’ve been slowing down in the grocery
aisles lately, poring over the array of meat available, scanning labels, checking
the marbling … all in the search for the perfect steak. |

Five thousand barrels of oil are pouring into the Gulf of Mexico from a
major oil leak more than 5,000 feet below the surface of the ocean, per
day. The potential environmental devastation likely to be caused by
this oil spill is being called "unprecedented". All over the news
officials are making statements and pledges to assure the public that
everything possible is being done in response to the accident. Over a
thousand personnel and a hundred ships are battling the spill, as well
as a small airforce of planes and helicopters being used to monitor the
slick and dump tens of thousands of gallons of chemical dispersant on
the spill. But despite all the efforts being made to contain and stop
the leak, it is pretty obvious that a quick fix and a total clean up is
impossible. No matter how much money, equipment, technology and effort
is thrown at this problem, it is almost guaranteed to end in
catastrophic damage to the environment. |

For those raising food products, a brand is a way to
differentiate your items so that it stands out on the shelf, on the menu, in
the market and, most importantly, in the consumer’s mind. Brands
are built on specific attributes – those qualities or features that
make your product unique. And beef brands, in particular, are often built
around attributes that relay benefits to the consumer in the way of health,
taste, tenderness, and food safety while also being environmentally sustainable
and animal welfare friendly. Creating a beef brand (or any food product
brand, for that matter) that relays these kinds of unique benefits to the
consumer will, in turn, create a need and demand for your product. |
